Pages for Audio Terrorist’s Rathlin setup
General – Kitchen – Line Up (under construction)
Introduction
All comments welcome. Please note that the primary role of the kitchen is to ensure that all the crew get fed and don’t have to think about it. We will absolutely be trying to feed as many friends and randomers as possible, but the meal plans and ingredients listed below are covering the crew.
We will be publishing a finished kitchen page in the next few days with requests for ingredients and an overview of how things will be working.
Cheers

Rathlin Kitchen
- General Message to be sent out regarding what the community kitchen will provide and what food types we are looking for as donations. Fresh veg and fruit will go quickest. We’ll probably be left with mountains of staple/dried foods.
- Some sort of battered carpet for the kitchen would be cool. allow people to sit down on something that isn’t grass?!
- Chairs – as many as we can afford. They seem to cost around €14 each.
- Multiple cooler boxes – need one for each day preferably to store milk, meats, cheese, butter etc
- 6+ flat pack boxes for food storage and separation
- barbecue! can be built on island, need grill, fuel, things for barbecuing (halloumi!!!)
- First Aid Kit (Cravings and Pob have first aid kits)
- gas cylinders
- birka (or possibly mick’s giant pot with tap – to avoid need for electricity)
- very large pots
- Large gas ring to be purchased – approx €80
- food containers – take away containers etc
- cutlery (wooden?)
- Bin!
- donn’s white fold up table
- alex’s blue table
- Herb Garden?
- Chris’s Tent from Mantua: Click here for photo

The kitchen is staffed by the following crew and volunteers:
- Gaia

I’ll bring along the camper fridge as it’s not fitted yet. It has a volume of 60 litres so should hold quite a bit. It’s 3-way meaning is can run off 12V DC, 240V AC or gas. I have a gas cylinder also which I’ll bring along.

saw this ad onfreecycle, is it mad to bring a gas cooker?we’d have a grill and oven as well as gas rings we could maybe give it to one of the islanders when we are leaving?
Hi
I have a Cannon Chichester gas oven cooker to go. Fully operational
http://img.shopping.com/cctool/PrdImg/images/pr/177X150/00/01/46/d6/55/21419605.JPG
is a pic of it. seems crazy i know, but would save a bit of cash on the gas ring front and give us the ability to reheat food and keep it warm as well as bake cakes yum yum
5:14 pm
July 23rd, 2007
yer right don i was tinkin’ mortons could give us some jon rocha glasses
7:26 pm
July 23rd, 2007
was thinkin this would make a good bbq pit?
Anyone want a large, 18ft 2 basin, sink,
it would be movable and easy to cook on in large scale. would need to drill it a bit you know air holes and grill holders, just an idea
7:32 pm
July 23rd, 2007
That sounds like quite a large thing to be bringing up. I think the current thought was to dig a pit and have a large enough grill to cover it?
7:34 pm
July 23rd, 2007
@ shell 9: regarding the cooker, well firstly as donn pointed out the connections would be important regarding using camping gas etc.
Secondly I guess it’s just a question of size and how useful it will really be. We’d still want a big gas ring to sit on the ground and take the largest pots.?
9:38 pm
July 23rd, 2007
shelly gave me some stuff. pots an ting. he thought it should be posted.
12:41 am
July 24th, 2007
Aye I did mention that he could send me a list of what he had. I need to start compiling what we have, who has it, and what we need.
11:34 am
July 24th, 2007
steve what exactly did you get from shell?
12:21 pm
July 24th, 2007
we went to a lebanese restaurant last night, i was asking about getting cheaper bulk amounts of halloumi, he said he could order some in for us which would be cheaper than it is in the shop. dont know if it’s necessary but worth thinking about. i really like halloumi when camping it’s so dense and filling that you dont need to eat much and youre sorted
3:36 pm
July 24th, 2007
You can consider me confirmed.
7:31 pm
July 24th, 2007
Halloumi is wicked when camping, i first tasted it on Rathlin.
Water melons? can we get these in bulk?
we are going to eat like royalty, again!
7:35 pm
July 24th, 2007
that halal shop in rathmines would often have a big crate outside with mixtures of melons / watermelons. but i guess if someone is going to a market to bulk buy some ingredients it can be added to the list
8:07 pm
July 24th, 2007
re halloumi; sarah gets it in sheridans, best discount price.
re; gas ring- maybe order this?http://www.armytents.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=42
cant seem to find it any where else. quite useful if we can’t find the other one. they also have an army oven that you can put on the fire, I REALLY WANT PROFITTEROLES.
I gave steve-
micks big pot and birka.
A biggish frying pan
a biggish domestic pot with lid,
a whisk/chop /grate stuff machine (hand powered)
a big serving type spoon.
8:12 pm
July 24th, 2007
dunno where to get watermelons other than said dirrka dirka shop in rathmines and portobello they seem to buy crates of them and all are willing to trade/cut a deal.
@alex, Any word on the army tent, I’m still trying to find a carpet?
8:35 pm
July 24th, 2007
Halloumi, halloumi, Halloumi.
Nuff said.
As for 2004 we surely did eat like kings, for the non veggies Tom and I cooked up some mean t-bones and the chicken satay was amazing. This year is gona rock. I will b available for kitchen duty from Friday morning when we get to the island.
Leek and potato soup last time was quite amazing. The thai red curry was excelent as well. Seem to remember someone showing up with an army size pot and someone decided to make a stew of everything that was left and it got kinda ucky.
Love the idea of the meal plans. Count me in for any cooking duties. Gona bring a load of tortillas because a few veg and halloumi grilled up in a tortilla is like heaven on Rathlin. Peace out.
8:37 pm
July 24th, 2007
Oh and don’t forget to bring dried spices if anyone has any in decent quantities, Coconut milk and any thai curry paste.
8:53 pm
July 24th, 2007
@shelley: Army Tent is confirmed. Chris is undecided – but I think he should definitely come!
Carpet not crucial but would be class. I’ll be in Dublin for a few days before heading up and can always do some skip scouting. Skips are great.

Shelly, both O’Meara Camping in Crumlin and Charles Camping in Blessington stock similar gas burners.
http://www.omearacamping.com/Accessories/cookers.htm
http://www.charlescamping.ie/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_20_183&products_id=1423
Alternatively, Ronan has a portable two ring gas burner but it wouldn’t be as durable as the one you’ve linked to. We can bring it along anyway.
8:57 pm
July 24th, 2007
@aaron: Aye. We’ll eat like kinds alright. Gaia has already planned a Thai Green Curry, but it will probably be for the Monday at some point. However we can easily shift things around. We’ll be making sure to stock the kitchen very well with all the luxuries you don’t usually have when camping.
9:03 pm
July 24th, 2007
it’s not a burco (there is no such thing as a burka.. sorry for pedantry).. it’s a large pot with a tap on it. just in case anyone thought it was something else. it is a cool thing to have though.
10:11 am
July 25th, 2007
alright folks, very organised indeed. i am willing to help in anyway possible, peeling vegetable, dishing out plates, cleaning etc.

July 25th, 2007
well i have the ferry booked for thursday evening so ill be leaving at about eleven or twelve on thursday morning. i unfortunately won’t have the van though and i have a pretty full car but im sure i can squeeze some pots or something into the boot/on peoples knees if need be.
2:23 pm
July 25th, 2007
that’s cool, no worries at all. just want to make sure people heading up on wednesday have lifts sorted.
10:02 pm
July 25th, 2007
right looks like i got a little confused there, i thought that ronan there was ronan dunne but infact its ronan breen. that makes more sense.
so i can assume ronan dunne is heading up on wednesday still? might be good to start working out some lift stuff and who is going with who. i should have some spaces to spare if anyone happens to be in leitrim. kind of getting off topic of kitchen stuff tho. sure we can sort it out on the rahtlin stuff page if we need to.
10:04 pm
July 25th, 2007
washing up liquid – ecover stuff ideally
tea towels
scrubbing brushes + cloths
basin (s)
10:33 pm
July 25th, 2007
Owing to a truck smashing into his car at the weekend, Ronan needs a lift. I have room for two passengers so Ronan is one and I’m guessing Steve also. You coming with me Steve?
10:52 pm
July 25th, 2007
right, i’m gonna continue this over on the rathlin stuff page. see you there!
11:06 pm
July 25th, 2007
Sorry I should have said Ronan is grand. The car was parked up on the street at the time.
2:46 am
July 26th, 2007
@35: thanks pob. I’m going to be doing some more list compiling tomorrow. Thanks for the reminders. Hopefully will have everything we need worked out pre-weekend.
9:22 am
July 26th, 2007
i guess so al. i could take my car up if it’s needed but it would be better to leave it here with my sister.. seeing as it wouldn’t even be used for 4 or 5 days or whatever. i’m not counting on you bringing me al, if you’ve someone else to take. but if you think it simplest, then sure, yeah.
12:02 pm
July 26th, 2007
I’ll try and bring some extra chairs up…
1:25 pm
July 26th, 2007
That’s cool Steve. I’d been working on the assumption you were travelling up with me anyway. Ronan D is the only other person I need to bring so that’s the two spaces filled.
1:46 pm
July 26th, 2007
i just found a camping twin gas ring deeley, it’s not huge but might be of some use. so should i go ahead and pick up one of the large gas rings in o mearas? anyone reckon there would be somewhere cheaper? im heading down to dublin today so might be able to sort it out this afternoon, if not i’ll try and sort it tomorrow
3:35 pm
July 26th, 2007
should i try and get some gas cylinders? normal big super-ser type ones? any use?
7:06 pm
July 26th, 2007
Aye. we need to plan gas cylinders and jerry cans pretty soon.
Need to work out what funds are available and what we’re spending where. Should we put out the word on freecycle that we’re looking for jerry cans and a large camping stove?
??
3:02 pm
July 27th, 2007
I’ll be bringing a Calor gas cylinder with me. I’m going to bring the camper fridge also and had been intending to use the gas to power that but if it’s needed for something else it’s there. I’m also bringing a small fire extinguisher.
10:29 am
July 28th, 2007
i checked out some gas stove stuff over the lad two days. it seems o mearas have put up their prices and not changed it on their website. so instead of the large single gas ring being €79 as stated its actually €99.
did some wandering around town yesterday and found the same ring in army bargains for €79. thats the only place i found in town that had that sized ring, everything else was a good bit smaller. so it looks like we need 2 of them.
if nothing comes up on freecycle then someone can sort that out on monday
10:55 am
July 30th, 2007
Ok are we putting up a list of what everyone is bringing for the kitchen as well like the one on the general page?
Weve got a brand new still sealed set of cutlery that we are going to donate to the kitchen. Also got a load of other stuff we are gona bring up but not sure how much of it will be surplus to needs till we get an idea what everyone else is bringing.
11:00 am
July 30th, 2007
Sorry Alex I havent come up with amounts for the thai green curry. I’m not really sure how many people its for so I’m fairly clueless as to recepies etc.
Will just say we need 2 bottles of green curry paste, 2 large cans unsweetend condensed milk, 4 – 6 cans coconut milk and we can just use up what ever veg is left at that point as its the sunday dinner meal and the last one on our meal plan.
12:38 pm
July 30th, 2007
i picked up a gas cylinder from mick yesterday, i’ll go and get it filled today. so we have two in total, one from mick and one from alan
